What is a Duct Split?

It is a type of heating and cooling system that warms the environment during the cold winter months and cools it during the hot summer months.
It consists of two main components: the condenser and the air handling unit (AHU).
The condenser comprises parts such as the fan/impeller, compressor, electric motor, and fins; the AHU includes components such as the filter, drain pan, coil, electric motor, evaporator, and fan/impeller.

How does it work?

It is installed within a false ceiling and distributes air to rooms and other areas via ductwork.

Its cooling operation is similar to that of a standard air conditioner, whereas for heating, it warms the space by circulating hot water through the unit.

Advantages:

When the system is configured to reverse the refrigeration cycle (heat pump mode) for heating—rather than using hot water from a boiler—it establishes an independent heating and cooling system for each building unit, unlike centralized systems or chiller-fan coil combinations. Compared to standard air conditioners and other systems, it offers superior performance; furthermore, by utilizing natural gas—which is more cost-effective than electricity in Iran—it reduces energy consumption costs. It also boasts significantly higher heating efficiency than radiators; while radiators rely on gradual heating via natural convection, ducted split systems utilize forced convection for heat transfer.
The ability to utilize fresh air facilitates proper ventilation and the creation of positive pressure within the building.
